Starkville Parks and Recreation Youth Basketball is in full swing.
The season started January 17 and does not end until March 3 when the championship games will be held.

Starkville Park and Recreaction sports coordinator Sheila Runnels is in charge of the league. She has seen some exciting games from the league this season and is excited for the rest of the games.

"SAY has gone really well so far," Runnels said. "We have had a few really exciting games."

The league is for boys and girls from ages 7-years-old to 15-years old or 2nd to 9th grade.

SAY features 362 players on 50 different teams. There are nine age divisions. Six boys divisions and three girls divisions.

Although the league is for young kids, Runnels has seen some fast tempo games.

"Really exciting up beat, fast tempo games," Runnels said. "We have a lot of basketball to play and so far it has gone really good and teams are having fun."

Each team is sponsored by either a group or company in the surrounding area. A sponsorship fee costs $175 a team and it is only $45 for a child to participate.

Runnels encourages Starkville residents to come out and catch some of the games.

"We play every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday so if you are looking for something to do come out and watch the kids play," Runnels said.

During the week, games start at 5:30 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. On Saturday, games are played at 9 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Games can be seen at the Sportsplex gym located at 405 Lynn Lane.
