GRENADA â Mrs. Ada Mae Mitchell Strider, 83, of Grenada, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at Providence Assisted Living in Grenada.
She was born May 2, 1928 in Tallahatchie County to Ernest Edwin and Hattie Alice Ross Mitchell. She was a member of the Grenada Church of the Nazarene. Ada served the people of Grenada County working alongside her husband, Jesse, who served 19 years as Sheriff. Upon his death in 1987, she completed the six months remaining in his fifth term.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada with Rev. Jesse Strider officiating and Burns Strider delivering the eulogy.
Interment will follow in the Smith Cemetery at Rosebloom.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Strider Akins (Richard) of Starkville; three sons, Alton Strider (Jody) of Grenada, Mack Strider (Brenda) of Sumrall and Burns Strider (Karen) of Washington, DC; a brother, John Mitchell (Allene) of Grenada; a sister-in-law, Christine Mitchell of Jackson; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jesse A. âBig Daddyâ Strider, and a brother, Edwin Mitchell.
Pallbearers will be William Strider, Daniel Sossaman, Ronnie Akins, Mitch Strider, Mike Mitchell, Eddie Mitchell, Keith Mitchell and Melvin Ross.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Grenada County Sheriffâs Department Deputies.
Garner-Harper Funeral Home of Grenada is in charge of arrangements.
