Swing camp has a Bulldog flavor

The Starkville Swing's Top Dawg Baseball Spring Training Camp offers a great deal of instruction for its participants on Saturday and Sunday at the Starkville Sportsplex.

It will also serve as quite a Mississippi State reunion.
Of the instructors coming in to assist Thomas Berkery, one of the former Bulldogs, will be Ed Easley, Jeffrey Rea, Brad Corley, Nick Vickerson, Jonathan Ogden, Jesse Carver, Brad Jones and Saunders Ramsey.

There will also be a special appearance by Paul Maholm, former MSU pitcher and recent signee of the Chicago Cubs. Maholm will sign autographs on Saturday at noon.

"This is going to be something these kids have never experienced, being up close and personal with Paul," Berkery said. "Ed Easley has been in AAA and some of these other guys have played several years in pro ball so seeing them is something you don't do every day. I think it will be a lot of fun and good instruction.

"Ed and I have been doing a camp in Olive Branch where he's from for four years now and I think 3/4 of my instructors also do his camps so we do a ton of camps together. They understand how to relate to kids so it should be pretty good and well worth the money I hope."

The times for the camp are Saturday 9 a.m.-noon and Sunday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for youth ages 5-12, and Saturday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday 2 p.m.-5 p.m. for high school ages 13 and up.

The cost is $125 per player, $175 for two brothers and $100 per team rate (five or more players).

"We've got 35-40 kids (as of Tuesday morning) so for the first year out, you've got to start somewhere," Berkery said. "If we have some show up Saturday, we're prepared. I'm sure we'll be taking phones calls and registration until then."

For additional information, contact Berkery at 662-617-9338 or search Facebook.
