On Valentine’s Day, I love you

February 10, 2012

February is the “I Love You” month. Valentine’s is red and white heart shaped candy boxes, pearls, perfume, flowers and cards with sweet messages tucked inside.
Miss Dottie is our No. 1 older, sitting “wo-mannequin,” and Miss Mollie Golly is our No. 2 younger, standing “wo-mannequin.” One could think of Dottie as “Granny” and Mollie Golly as her granddaughter. I know for sure that both girls absolutely refuse to ever grow up. They are ageless and both simply dressed to kill for this love month of February. It’s that extra special time of the year to see and enjoy delicious, fattening heart-shaped boxes of candy, white shining pearls, wonderful sweet smelling bottles of perfume, gorgeous flowers, and beautiful and thoughtful cards that all say “Be my Valentine because I love you.”
Drive by and glance over at our big wrap-around front porch on Louisville Street in Starkville and see these “wo-mannequins” dressed from head to toe in red and white polka-dotted outfits.
Dottie has on a stylish red and white polka-dotted long dress with matching polka-dotted shoes and socks. On her head is a pretty straw picture hat in red and white. She is holding a large red heart-shaped box of chocolates and a big red flower in her hands. She will offer you a piece of her creamy candy.
Mollie Golly has on her red and white polka-dotted outfit with sparkling red Mary Jane shoes and white stockings with frilly white socks on her toes. She is sporting a white knit cap filled with red and white polka-dotted bows on top. She has a small box of chocolates in her hand. She might share a piece of her candy with you also.
I can just hear Dottie and Mollie Golly humming and sweetly singing the most famous and familiar Valentine love song of all time, written in 1910, called “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.”

“I am dreaming, dear, of you day by day
Dreaming when the skies are blue, when they are gray,
When the silv’ry moonlights gleams, still I wander on in dreams,
In a land of love, it seems, just with you.

Let me call you ‘Sweetheart’; I’m in love with you.
Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.
Keep the love light glowing in your eyes so true,
Let me call you ‘Sweetheart’; I’m in love with you.

Longing for you all the while, more and more;
Longing for the sunny smile I adore.
Birds are singing far and near, roses blooming everywhere
You, alone, my heart can cheer, you, just you.

Let me call you ‘Sweetheart’; I’m in love with you.
Let me hear you whisper that you love me too.
Keep the love light glowing in your eyes so true,
Let me call you ‘Sweetheart’; I’m in love with you.”

We could all let every day be Valentine’s for the rest of this year by taking time to give somebody somewhere a big smile, a great big hug and a kiss on the cheek. Couldn’t we all use a little more love-light in our eyes and hearts? Yes.
As I end, may I sincerely say to each one of you that I love you.
