Mississippi State returns to the road today, looking to get back on track in men's basketball after dropping games to Georgia and LSU over the past week.
The Bulldogs match up with the Auburn Tigers who had the midweek off to prepare.
While Auburn (13-12) is just 3-8 in league competition, MSU isn’t in a position to take the Tigers lightly after dropping its past two league outings and head coach Rick Stansbury understands that.Â
“Auburn is one of the more improved teams in the league this year, and they’ve played awfully well at home,” Stansbury said. “We’ve had some tough losses lately, and we’ve got to find a way to win.”
State’s current streak marks the first time this season the Bulldogs (19-7, 6-5) have suffered back-to-back losses, both of which occurred in overtime.Â
“We’ve got to learn from these losses and move on,” said senior point guard Dee Bost. “We can’t dwell on the past. We have to look at it as a new season that starts at Auburn.”
Despite the recent outcomes, State has had success against the Tigers. Two weeks ago State defeated Auburn 91-88 in a game that wasn’t decided until the final minute of the contest.Â
MSU shot a season-best 60.4 percent (29-48) from the floor and drained 12 of its 19 3-point attempts. Arnett Moultrie paced the Bulldogs with 21 points, while Renardo Sidney added 17, followed by Bost with 15 and Jalen Steele with 13.
Mississippi State expects to have Moultrie, who was injured in the closing minutes of the LSU game, back at 100 percent. He currently leads MSU in scoring with 16.5 points per game while leading the league with 10.8 rebounds. He also has a league-high 14 double-doubles.Â
The Tigers are led in scoring by guard Frankie Sullivan who is scoring at a 12.4 points per game clip. The Tigers also hold a three-game win streak over the Bulldogs in Auburn.Â
Tip at Auburn Arena is slated for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised by Fox Sports South with Dave Neal and Larry Conley handling the broadcast.View more articles in:
