SPD charges Moore after car burglaries

Starkville Police Department officers arrested Joshua Moore, 21, of Starkville Thursday afternoon in connection with a rash of vehicle burglaries committed earlier that morning.
Moore, of 205 Lynn Lane Apartment 2B, admitted to investigators to breaking into five vehicles at the Camden Place area on Louisville Street after being arrested at his residence at approximately 5:30 p.m. SPD Detective Scott Carrithers said the burglaries occurred just after 1 a.m.
“Basically, (the burglaries were in) a 30-minute time frame,” Carrithers said. “It was 3:40 in the afternoon before we got the first call. At this time he’s only charged with three auto burglaries but admitted to breaking into five.”
Carrithers said Moore also admitted to being a member of a street gang called the Simon City Royals. Officers identified Moore by a Star of David tattoo under his right eye, indicating his affiliation with the gang.
“They are a predominately caucasian gang that originated out of Chicago,” he said.
Moore was already on probation for stealing a car in 2011. He was transported to Oktibbeha county Jail, where he is being held on a $15,000 bond.
SPD Chief David Lindley said he was pleased with how quickly officers were able to retrieve Moore and glad to have assistance from witnesses to Moore’s activity.
“Citizens helped tremendously by providing cooperation and accurate information that led to the identification of the suspect,” Lindley said. “We’re glad to have him off the street because he has been very active and committing a number of crimes.”
Carrithers said he wanted to remind residents to lock their car and house doors.
