SHS takes third place

March 5, 2012

OXFORD – The Starkville High School boys' powerlifting team flexed its muscles in the Class 5A North Half State championship at Oxford High School.

The Yellowjackets finished third overall Monday, with six competitors advancing to Jackson to compete in state.

Ralph Mclain of the 148 pound weight class took first place along with Lee Edward Jefferson in the 181 pound weight class.

"(Mclain and Jefferson) did a good job," head coach Justin Moss said. "Jefferson especially. He made a good jump from the district to the north half to take first place. Both are in a good position to win state in April."

Dondre Harris of the 148 pound weight class took second along with Josh Kitchens of the 220 pound weight class.

Tyler Moore and Preston Baker both took third place in the 123 pound weight class and the 198 pound weight class respectively.

The state competition will be held sometime in April.
