Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Office has identified the skeletal remains found a quarter of a mile from Reed Road in the Adaton community last month as belonging to Jamashed Aryana.
OCSO Commander Brett Watson said Aryana was 63 years old at the time he was first reported missing more than 10 years ago.
“Mr. Aryana was reported missing from Oktibbeha County in March of 2001 after walking away from his residence,” Watson said. “He was identified by DNA comparison with a family member.”
Watson said Aryana resided on Maroon Street in Oktibbeha County at the time he went missing.
Watson said the initial discovery was made Feb. 14 after a concerned citizen stumbled upon the remains as well as personal items believed to be associated with the remains while walking the fence line on his property. The area where the remains were found were heavily wooded and overgrown with brush.
Watson said OCSO wanted to thank county Coroner Michael Hunt, Bo Scales of Scales Bio Lab in Brandon and Mississippi State University assistant professor of anthropology and Middle Eastern cultures Nicholas Hermann for their assistance in the investigation. He said Aryana’s family has been notified of the identification, and the family has asked for privacy at this time.
