The Starkville Academy baseball team didn't commit many errors, but found themselves on the wrong side at the end.

The Volunteers fell to Jackson Prep 12-0 in six innings Tuesday night at Volunteer field.

Ryan McKell got the nod on the mound for SA and head coach Neal Henry felt confident in his senior starter.

"Coming into the game McKell is 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA," Henry said. "He has given you four good outings. Baseball is a game of failure. He just had one of those off days. They tomahawked a ball for a triple."

The Patriots struck for two runs in the first inning and never looked back.

The Volunteers were still in it going to the top of the third, but a five run inning gave Prep the momentum.
With one out in the inning David Huffman singled to right field and was driven in by Ross Renfrow's triple down the right field line.

Renfrow later scored on a suicide squeeze by William Mounger. A double, three walks and single plated the other three runs for the Patriots.

"They are a playoff team," Henry said. "They have been in the playoffs every year since I was coming up through school. We got squeezed tonight a little bit. Sometime you have to get over that and make outs and get outs."

Offensively the Volunteers never got anything going and only managed two hits.

Colby Runnels singled in the first inning and McKell had an infield single in the fifth inning.

"We really couldn't get anything going offensively," Henry said. "We had a few good at bats, get some guys on base and never could get that key hit. Some times that stuff just happens."

Prep scored in in the fourth and one in the fifth. They put up a three spot in the sixth inning to ensure a victory.

Zach Williams plated the tenth run with an RBI triple.

The Volunteers fell to 15-5 overall and 5-3 in district play. These two teams will be back at on Friday in Jackson. A varsity double header is scheduled for 5 p.m.
