Mr. Julius Mark Merritt, 77 died Friday, April 13, 2012, in Starkville. He was born March 23, 1935 in Dothan, Ala.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Susan Hagerman Merritt of North Little Rock, Ark., and his parents, Julius Mark Merritt Sr. and Sybil Merritt of Hattiesburg.
He is survived by his wife Nellah Taylor Merritt of Starkville; son, Julius Mark Merritt, III (Trey) of North Little Rock, Ark.; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Merritt Banes and Charles “Kip” Banes of Starkville, and daughter and son-in-law, Connie Alred Simpson and Stanley Simpson of Flora. He leaves behind grandchildren Mark Banes and Sarah Banes of Starkville, and Sydney Simpson and Andie Simpson of Flora.
Mark worked as a Mechanical Engineer his entire career. He grew up in Hattiesburg and was a graduate of Mississippi State University. He was an Army veteran.
Visitation will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at First Methodist Church followed by a Memorial Service at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers family request memorials be given to SOAR, Starkville Oktibbeha Achieving Results, a community foundation.
