JACKSON – The Starkville Academy Volunteers improved their record to 7-5 in the South AAA Conference Wednesday with a 2-1 victory against Hillcrest Christian.
Ryan McKell pitched a one-hitter through five innings to get the win, while Alex Holtcamp worked the final two frames to pick up the save.
Colby Runnels picked up a triple and single to lead the Volunteers at the plate and Ryan Mann added an extra base hit with a double.
Starkville Academy scored in the first inning and the fourth. Stephen Robertson drove in one of the runs with a single, while John McReynolds had the other RBI.
The Vols, who improved to 17-7 overall, host Hillcrest Christian for a varsity doubleheader today at 4 p.m.
