The East Oktibbeha track and field teams are coming off a good showing at the Class A, Region 4, District 1 meet last week.
Today, the Titans turn their attention to the Region meet at Winona.
The boys won their third-straight district title, while the girls took second place.
East Oktibbeha has been strong in the running events all year long and that has been its strength.
"We have something we have not had in awhile," Titans head coach Randy Brooks said. "We are really strong in relays and in sprints. We are usually pretty strong in relays, but have not been that good in sprints or in the distance events."
In the district meet, the Titans stepped up and stole a couple of field events. Jalen Peterson won first place in the shot put and Steve Bell won the high jump.
"That really stood out because we had not done that well in field events in the past," Brooks said. "If you are going to win the state meet, you have to do well in the field events."
Peterson has not lost a meet this year and Brooks feels confident in him going into today's meet.
"Jalen has not lost , including against 5A and 6A competition," Brooks said.
Bell is the first high jumper the program has had and Brooks is really excited about him.
"He is the first high jumper we have had since we revived the program four years ago," Brooks said.View more articles in:
