The Starkville Academy Volunteers get to experience two treats when it comes to golf this week.
Not only do the Vols get to participate in the State AAA Tournament, but it happens to be at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point.
"There's no better venue than Old Waverly," Starkville Academy golf coach Mark Alexander said. "It's the best golf course in the state of Mississippi. The guys are pumped up about playing there."
The Vols finished third at the South AAA Tournament in Hattiesburg last week, but that was good enough to land a spot in the State meet.
Alexander was glad to see his squad find a way to make the State event and hopes it takes advantage of the opportunity.
"We didn't play well at Hattiesburg, but we were still able to qualify for the state tournament," Alexander said.
The surprise contributor for SA at South State was the 85 carded by Harrison McBride.
With McBride along with Wyatt Allen and Harper Arnold, Alexander knows the potential is there for a good run at State.
"We've been consistent all year with our top three," Alexander said. "We have a young team, but expect to compete well."
The State meet takes place on Tuesday.
