TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Freshman relief pitcher Jonathan Holder had pitched 27.1 innings without giving up a run. That is the best a pitcher has started a career at Mississippi State.
Holder gave up two runs on back-to-back hits in the top of the seventh in a 3-2 loss to Samford Sunday at the Tallahassee Regional.
Samford's Phillip Ervin singled and was driven in by double by Brandon Miller.
"That was definitely a mistake," Holder said. "Give him credit, he jumped all over it and put the barrel where he wanted it. He did what any good hitters would do and took advantage of it."
That run was earned. An unearned also scored on Holder when C.K. Irby hit it to third and reached on a throwing error by Sam Frost. Miller scored on the play.
