Bulldogs pick up commit: Hammond makes third Bulldog pick-up for 2013

Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs are being selective this time around when it comes to recruiting the class of 2013. However, when the right athlete comes along they are willing to welcome him into the program. 

Standing at 6-foot-4 tall, B.J. Hammond happens to be one of the athletes Mullen couldn’t turn away. The Bulldogs have been looking for another physical receiver to compliment Joe Morrow in their passing attack and Hammond fits that bill. 

After careful consideration the Gadsden City, Ala. High School wide receiver decided that the time is right for him to pledge his commitment to Coach Dan Mullen and the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

"Mississippi State just showed me the most love the entire time," said a jubilant Hammond. "The coaches committed to me so I am committing to them."

It may have appeared during the recruiting process that MSU was slow playing his recruitment, but Hammond now sees the method behind the madness. 

"The coaches recruited my parents before they did me," said Hammond "They got my parents believing that Mississippi State was the right place for me.  I am so fired up right now.  I can't wait to get to Mississippi State.  I talked to Coach Mullen, Coach (Geoff) Collins, and Coach (Angelo) Mirando.  I told them all was ready to be a Bulldog and they are so excited.  I was down at LSU and I just knew this wasn't the place for me.  I knew home was Mississippi State."

Hammond feels the Bulldog coaches have a clear plan.  The plan includes a trip to Atlanta, of course, but there is a much bigger prize they are after.

"Coach Mullen is building a team that will win a National Championship," he said.  "I want to be a part of that.  With my class that's coming in, it is perfect timing for me to be a part of that.  I think we can win two championships here."

And while Mullen's plan is a big part of Hammond's decision, early playing time doesn't hurt.

"I know that if I come to Mississippi State I will get a ton of playing time as a freshman when I work hard," said Hammond. "I know for a fact nobody is going to outwork me and I have the talent to be the best and that's my plan."

Hammond marks the third commitment in Mississippi State’s class of 2013. The Bulldogs could see that total drastically increase over the next few days as football camp continues through the end of next week.
