Mr. Oscar Perry Boyett, 82, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday July 9, 2012 in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Starkville with Dr. Prentiss Gordon officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Garden Park.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Boyett graduated from Starkville High School in 1947 and the University of Southern Mississippi in 1951. After college, he served in the US Army from 1951-1953. He enjoyed hunting, as a young man, and later enjoyed fishing and gardening as well as spending time with his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed MSU basketball, where he was a season ticket holder for 30 years.
Throughout high school he participated in football, baseball and track. He also played football at Holmes Community College and at Southern.
On June 30, 2012 Perry and Fay celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Perry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fay Sanders Boyett of Starkville; sister, Joyce Boyett Vanlandingham of Lexington, Ky.; children, Marcia Boyett (Steve) Neal of Starkville; Jeffrey Wayne Boyett of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Jonathan Wesley Parrish, Rachel Lynn Parrish and Steven Austin Neal of Starkville; and Jeffery Caleb Boyett of Vicksburg.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul Burnley and Maud Phillips Boyett.
Honorary pallbearers will be men of 389.
