County Board to hear road update

Oktibbeha County Road Manager Victor Collins will update the board of supervisors Monday on the progress his crews have made this year with road improvements.

Projects being completed this year are part of a four-year, $10.08 million comprehensive plan to restore and build more than 66 miles of road.

Collins said so far his crews are on schedule to complete all the projects scheduled for completion this year.

Those projects include paving 1.3 miles of New Light Road and 2.4 miles of Wade Road; building 8.1 miles on Brown Harris, Pat Station, Reform and Wade Roads; and reclaiming 1 mile of Morgantown Road, 1 mile of Pleasant Ridge Road and 2 miles of Williams Road.

“Right now we’re in the process of grubbing, clearing and building Harris Road. We’re also in the process of returning back to Pat Station Road. We had some issues with easements there,” Collins said. “We’ve finished Wade Road. We finished up a little work on New Light Road … we repaired some lower places in it and got it ready to get paved this year.”

Collins said weather permitting, all of this year’s planned projects should be completed by November.

“If the weather holds and we don’t have any rain that comes in on us … we’re on track to (finish) before the year is out. Brown Road is our last road we’ve got on the agenda to be built for this year. We’re hoping sometime in October or November to be finished.”

The board will meet 9 a.m. Monday at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse.
