Mr. Ralph Webb Hooks Sr. of Columbus, 92, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Lowndes Funeral Home Chapel in Columbus with Brother Jessie Ray officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens in Columbus.
Visitation will be held 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Lowndes Funeral Home.
Lowndes Funeral Home of Columbus is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hooks was born Jan. 23, 1920 in Bailey, MS to the late Rutherford M. and Edna Webb Hooks. He has been a native of Lowndes County for the last 44 years, having moved from Mobile, Ala. Mr. Hooks was a veteran of the United State Air Force, having served with honor during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1984 from the Columbus Air Force Base with 31 years of service as an Aircraft Mechanic.
Mr. Hooks was a member of the First Assembly of God of Columbus where he served as a musician in the church orchestra and played the violin on special occasions. He worked together with his wife, Juanita, for over 20 years in the women's jail ministry.
Mr. Hooks is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita M. (Walls) Hooks of Columbus; son, Bobby (Beverly) Hooks of Starkville; daughter, Mary Ann Garrett (Freddie Chasi) of Columbus; five grandchildren, Amy (Larry) Weaver, Kathryn (Kennon) Vaughan, Randolph Jack (Jamie) Garrett, Morgan (Daniel) Trotter, Marylea (Josh) Thornton; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Earle Minchew.
Pallbearers will be Kennon Vaughan, Josh Thornton, Freddie Chasi, Bart Wood, Scott Tilley and Ken Tull.
