Brother James A. Townsend, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 at his home in Ackerman.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012 at Louisville United Methodist Church.
Burial will follow at Parkway Cemetery in Koscuisko.
Visitation was held 5-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman.
Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on April 20, 1919. He was a graduate of Ethel High School, Wood Junior College and Delta State University. He served his country during WWII as assistant in a field hospital and assistant to the Chaplain during which time he was called to the ministry.
He will always be remembered for his kind spirit to those in need of someone with a listening ear, the spiritually bereft and his amazing memory. He loved reading, flowers, painting and music. He served the Lord in the ministry of the United Methodist Church for 33 and a half years.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Grace (Eric) Chambers of Ackerman and La Fonda (Brooks) Poland of Batesville; brothers, Carl Townsend and Cliff Townsend of Kosciusko; sisters, Nell Turnipseed of Weir and Lucille Hathcock of Kosciusko; grandchildren, Ben and Hannah Chambers of Ackerman, Brannon Poland of Newton and Anne Claire (Chuck) Henson of Batesville; great-grandchildren, Brayden Poland and a precious unborn child to be welcomed in March to Chuck and Anne Claire Henson; and many nieces, nephews and people that loved him dearly.
