ACKERMAN – Gary Beals knows that it is going to take plenty of hard work from this year’s Ackerman Lady Indians squad if they want to compete hard and achieve their goal of making the playoffs.
Losing tough seniors Vanessa Miller, Sarah Bowles and Kadesia Simmons certainly took something from Ackerman, but Beals says that “most of the top six have played a lot.”
Of those returners, the Lady Indians welcome back the leading scorer from last year in Bridgett Robinson. Ackerman will also bring back strong inside players Iasia Lee and Nicki Ford as well as guards Tiara Connor and Khadijah Ashford.
The aforementioned players are not only going to be called upon to compete hard, but the coach is looking to them to take the reins and lead the team.
Beals knows that if his team can go out and compete hard every game then the “wins and losses will take care of themselves,” but there is one more aspect of the game that Ackerman needs to control if they want to reach the playoffs.
“We have got to cut down on turnovers,” Beals said. “Every time we turn the ball over, we lose an opportunity to score. We have got to be able to handle the basketball if we want to see success.”
The Lady Indians will gain even more game experience and be able to work on their goals as the season progresses.
