In midweek action the Starkville Academy Lady Vols claimed a 46-37 victory over the Jackson Prep Lady Patriots.
“We came out ready to play,” Starkville Academy coach Glenn Schmidt said.
In what was a toughly fought battle, the Lady Vols shot 51.5% as they continued their quest for a perfect season moving their record to 6-0 overall and 1-0 divisionally,
From the very beginning it was clear Schmidt was right about the Lady Vols coming to play as they held a 5 point advantage after one period of play with the score standing 15-10.
The second period went much like the first, with Starkville Academy dominating the boards to add 16 more bringing the score to 31-19 as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
Defense stepped up for both teams in the third period, with scoring slowing down considerably on both sides. At the end of three the pair was separated by 15 with the Lady Vols leading 40-25.
The final period of play saw Jackson Prep made up a little ground, but its efforts were too little too late as Starkville Academy scored another six to take a 46-37 victory.
Maggie Proffitt led the Lady Vols in scoring with 14, followed by Anna Lea Little and Sallie Kate Richardson who scored 11 and 10 respectively.
