MADISON – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers improved their record to 8-0 for the season with a 53-35 victory over Madison-Ridgeland Academy at the MRA Tournament Wednesday night.
The game was a rematch of last season's Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Overall State Championship game in Clinton.
Starkville Academy was sharp from the start as it took a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and increased the margin to 41-13 by halftime.
The Lady Vols shot 35.7 percent (20-of-56) from the field.
The big difference was on the boards as SA out-rebounded MRA 31-16.
It was a balanced scoring effort for the Lady Vols with Maggie Proffitt leading the way with 14 points. Sallie Kate Richardson added 11 points for the only other SA player in double digits. Anna Lea Little scored nine points and Tiffany Huddleston chipped in eight points.
The Lady Vols are back in action Saturday against Pillow Academy at the MRA Tournament.
