Maben man charged with stabbing pregnant woman

A Maben man is in custody at Oktibbeha County Jail after officials say he allegedly stabbed a pregnant family member of his girlfriend multiple times Sunday morning.

John Jones, 30, of 110 Sanders Trailer Park Road, is in custody after he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department Commander Brett Watson said the victim was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and that she and her unborn child were both in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.

Watson said OCSD and Maben Police Department responded to a call at approximately 11 a.m. from a residence on Maben-Bell Schoolhouse Road. Because OCSD is still interviewing witnesses as part of its investigation, he said, it is not determined what circumstances led to the alleged assault.

Jones is expected to be arraigned and have a bond set on Monday, Watson said, and additional charges are expected. It is not known if Jones has prior arrests.
