DEKALB – Starkville High’s Lady Yellowjackets spent part of their holiday break competing in the Kemper County Christmas Tournament Friday night.
In their only game of the event, the Lady Jackets fell to the Jaguars of Sumter Central in Ala., 55-48.
“They were a scrappy team that played hard and battled us the whole game,” Starkville girls coach Kristie Williams said.
Competition between the two teams was close the entire game. At the half, the teams found themselves separated by only three points as the Jaguars held a 30-27 lead.
“We missed some key possessions and transition baskets that might have made the difference,” Williams said.
Blair Schaefer led the way offensively for the Lady Jackets. The junior posted 24 points, while teammate Kelsye Reed put up 10.
