YAZOO CITY – The Starkville High School Lady Yellowjackets jumped out to a first-quarter lead and never looked back in taking a 48-28 Class 5A, Region 2 win over Yazoo City on Friday night.
SHS led at halftime 29-16 on the way to improving its records to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the region.
Blair Schaefer had a big scoring night with 24 points and she also dished out six assists.
In the boys game, the Jackets lost a 47-38 decision after being up at the half 19-17.
Fontavious Smith was the only SHS player to score in double figures with 14 points, while Avonte' Amos was next with eight points.
The Jackets are now 1-1 in the region.
The SHS teams take on Grenada at home on Tuesday.
