GREENWOOD – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers have played well all season long, but they were still able to achieve another first on Friday night.
For the first time in school history, the Starkville Academy girls were able to win a basketball game at Pillow Academy.
The Lady Vols achieved it with a 65-31 decision, but were locked in a close game at the half. SA held a 28-19 lead after the first two quarters.
With the victory, the Lady Vols improved to 25-0.
Starkville Academy held a 33-26 rebounding edge against Pillow Academy and shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the field. The Lady Vols had eight 3-point field goals.
Anna Lea Little had a double-double for SA with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Maggie Proffitt led the way in the scoring department with 27 points. Nora Kathryn Carroll was also in double-digits with 14 points.
The Lady Vols outscored the Lady Mustangs in the paint 30-12.
The Starkville Academy teams are back in action today at home. Oak Hill Academy will be the opponent with 7th grade games beginning at noon.
The Vols also played Pillow on Friday night, but those results were not available at press time.
