MADISON – The Lady Wolverines of East Webster entered the Class 2A, Region 5 tournament as No. 1.
On Thursday, they competed in their first game where they secured a 46-30 victory.
"In the beginning of the game, we started a little slow," East Webster girls coach Mandy Jewell said. "We settle down as the game progressed. The most consistent thing was our defense which was strong most of the game."
The Lady Wolverines led from the very beginning and never looked back as they held a 24-13 lead heading into the second half.
Third period action saw East Webster extend its lead to 12 points as the team entered the final minutes of action leading 32-20.
The Lady Wolverines secured the victory during the fourth period as they scored 14 points.
Lynesha McCurry led the way with 18 points, as East Webster advanced to face Pisgah in the championship game at 7 p.m. tonight.
Following its game with Pisgah, the Lady Wolverines host the first round of the Class 2A South playoffs Monday.
Girls Game
Pisgah 67,
Eupora 57
MADISON – In a semifinal game of the girls’ Class 2A, Region 5 event, the Lady Eagles lost to Pisgah.
With the loss, the Lady Eagles move on to face St. Joseph’s in a 4 p.m. consolation contest tonight.
Pisgah’s win places them in the championship game where it faces East Webster.
Once today’s competition is final, Eupora will move forward to compete in the first round of the 2A South playoffs on Monday.
Boys Game
Williams-Sullivan 92,
Eupora 63
MADISON – A short time after the Lady Eagles fell in their semifinal, the Eupora boys suffered the same fate at the hands of Williams-Sullivan.
After trailing 42-24, Eupora ultimately lost to Williams-Sullivan.
With the loss, the Eagles will compete in the Class 2A, Region 5 consolation contest. Taking place at 5:30 p.m., Eupora faces East Webster tonight.
Following tonight’s game Eupora advances to the first round of the class 2A South playoffs on Tuesday.
