Starkville Academy's first football practice on Thursday was on the light side as the Volunteers opted to go without pads in favor of simply shorts and helmets.
It's a tactic that certainly played into the fast and upbeat tempo which highlighted the return to the field.
“That is just the way we believe in practicing,” SA coach Jeff Terrill said. “We really try to press hard, have tempo, reps and a lot of them. Of course when you have kids playing both ways, you have to condition them and the kids understand that, but we push for tempo and effort. We think it makes them better. We try to make it a little crazy because that is the way it is going to be during the game.”
