Freshman Kimmy Gardiner and the Mississippi State Bulldogs may have had some nerves early during the first volleyball match of the season.
As the action progressed, the Bulldogs became more and more comfortable and went on to defeat Southeast Missouri 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-18) on Friday afternoon to open the Maroon Classic at Newell-Grissom Building.
Gardiner just missed a double-double in her first appearance for MSU with 19 kills and nine digs.
"I was a little nervous because it was the first game," Gardiner said. "We've been together the past two months, so we are so close on and off the court and it transferred onto the court right way. I had so much help from my teammates. It was a great first game."
