After losing 35-3 in their first game last week on the road against Lamar School, the Starkville Academy Volunteers bounced back in a major way at home defeating East Rankin Academy 28-7.
However, it was not smooth sailing throughout the night for the Volts as they got off to a rocky start going down 7-0 early. In the first quarter and throughout most of the second, it seemed as if East Rankin had control of the game as they were running the ball effectively and shutting down the Starkville Academy offense.
Things turned late in the second quarter when sophomore quarterback Houston Clark scored on a 62-yard run to tie it up at 7-7 all with just over 2 minutes remaining in the half.
Clark said he just took what the defense gave him on the play.
“We were running one of our outside run option plays and they had my pitch man covered so I just cut it up the field saw an opening and busted loose,” Clark said.
