True freshman Ashton Shumpert took the field as a Bulldog for the first time on Saturday. During his appearance the running back compiled 22-carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
Shumpert’s two trips to the end zone made him the first true freshman to score twice in a collegiate debut since Chad Bumphis in 2009.
Shumpert also became the first MSU true freshman to lead the team in rushing yards since Anthony Dixon in 2006.
