It was the desire of football coach Jamie Mitchell to restore a winning tradition when he was hired at Starkville High School in 2010.
That mission has been accomplished.
In the four years prior to Mitchell's arrival in Starkville, the Yellowjackets had a combined record of 20-28 during that time.
Mitchell is currently in his fourth season as the SHS head coach and he has an overall mark of 37-15. He has taken the Jackets to three-straight playoff appearances, led the program to two-straight showings in the Class 5A State championship game and won the title last season.
Starkville hosts Grenada on Friday night and now looks to make a run in the Class 6A postseason.
Even with the Jackets stepping up in classification, Mitchell and his staff have found a way to get back to the playoffs.
