Normally when teams from across the nation descend on Humphrey Coliseum it is on the collegiate level.
This week things are a bit different as Starkville High School hosts the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk at the Hump featuring teams from across the Southeast and even one team from Pennsylvania.
“The tournament has gotten bigger and bigger as far as the schools that are coming in,” Carter said. “This year we have teams from as far as Pittsburgh and we have a No. 1 team from Arkansas coming so we are excited to get things started.”
The Starkville boys are slated to play at 7 p.m. every night and will face both of the aforementioned teams beginning with a contest today against the top-ranked Parkview from Little Rock, Ark. On day two Friday, the Jackets will tip against Lausanne Collegiate Prep, which hails from Memphis and on Saturday, the Yellowjackets will conclude the tournament playing Mt. Lebanon out of Pittsburgh.
As the tournament continues to grow, new things are constantly added and this year the schedule features the addition of girls’ competition.
