A hat hangs on the front door of Starkville Café — a straw hat decorated with flowers by Carole McReynolds Davis.
Several of her paintings have homes on the cafe’s walls, depicting flowers, people, stained-glass windows, and the café itself. She and her husband Frank Davis, a retired research entomologist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, could usually be found enjoying breakfast at the café each day. So when she passed away Wednesday, John Peeples, owner of Starkville Café, thought displaying one of the hundreds of hats Carole made and wore would be a fitting tribute to her memory.
