A dispute between the city of Starkville and Starkville School District over nearly $500,000 in old construction bond money is coasting ever further from a resolution, instead bogging down deeper in uncertainty and technicality.
Bancorp South denied a city request to recall a $474,081.63 check the city issued the school district in April from a retired bond account, Mayor Parker Wiseman confirmed on Tuesday. Wiseman requested the recall on June 27, citing that City Clerk Lesa Hardin — whose signature was the only one on the check — was not an authorized signatory on the city’s Cadence Bank account from which the check was issued. Wiseman and Chief Administrative Officer Taylor Adams are both authorized signatories on that account.
