HAMILTON – East Webster cruised through the first round of the Class 2A softball playoffs, but the second round was nowhere near as kind to the Lady Wolverines on Saturday.
In a best-of-three set for a trip to the North division title series, East Webster was swept by Hamilton, falling 6-3 in the first game and 12-8 in game two.
"Hamilton never gave up and we didn't respond," said Lady Wolverines coach Dallas Ferguson. "They were just the better team today."
East Webster mustered just seven hits in the opener.
Autumn Frost accounted for two of those seven with a home run and a single.
Caroline Hendrix also got a pair of singles.
In game two, Frost again shined in a losing effort, notching another home run as well as a double.
Cayley McClellan added a pair of singles for East Webster as well, but the Lady Wolverines still couldn't force a third game.
"We hit too many fly balls," said Ferguson of the second game.
East Webster, who entered the playoffs as the Region 4 champions, saw its season end.
The Lady Wolverines came into Saturday's affair on the heels of a first round win over O'Bannon. East Webster swept past that series by scores of 16-1 and 17-0.
Hamilton will now face Mantachie for the North championship on October 12.
