FLORENCE — A registered sex offender originally convicted in Oktibbeha County has been arrested and charged with possession of child pornorgraphy.
Wallace S. Weeks, Jr, 48, of 43 Cheyenne Drive, Florence, was arrested at his home today by investigators with the Attorney General’s Office, as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. He is charged with nine counts of possession of child pornography.
Weeks was taken to the Rankin County Detention Center, where he is awaiting an initial court appearance to set bond.
Weeks had previously been convicted in Oktibbeha County on April 26, 1994, for “touching of a child or a mentally defective, incapacitated or physically helpless person for lustful purposes.”
The investigation into Weeks’ activities originated with the Richland Police Department, but was transferred to ICAC Task Force due to jurisdiction, said Attorney General Jim Hood in a statement Tuesday.
“This is a good example of the effectiveness and cooperative nature of the task force, and why it is so important,” Hood said.
“We were able to arrest this registered sex offender for sharing and downloading child pornography by joining forces with task force members Richland Police, the Copiah County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.”
