Benefit breakfast held at Sportsplex

An organization designed to empower local students hosted a benefit breakfast Wednesday at the Sportsplex on Lynn Lane.
Meagan O’Nan, award winning author and founder of the O’Nan Project for Change and Step Up! Starkville, said each $5 donation taken at the door will go to the family of Mississippi State football player Nick Bell, who died last week after a short battle with cancer.
Bell’s family will also receive proceeds from a silent auction held at Wednesday’s breakfast — an auction to which over 35 local businesses have donated.
“There haven’t been any business that have said no,” O’Nan said referring to the auction. “I think it shows the true character of the city.”
The Project for Change has scheduled monthly breakfasts for students involved in the organization with different speakers explaining the benefits of character-building topics that will be the focus of O’Nan’s curriculum the following weeks.
During Wednesday’s breakfast, O’Nan, Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman and Ann Carr, Mississippi State’s senior associate athletic director for student services and senior women’s sports administrator, all spoke about cooperation.
