Hagenston to visit Books and Authors Wednesday

The Starkville Public Library’s Books and Authors program on Wednesday will feature short-story author, Becky Hagenston.
The event will be held at noon Wednesday at the Starkville Public Library.
Hagenston will be presenting her second book, “Strange Weather,” the winner of the 2009 Spokane Prize for Short Fiction.
Hagenston’s characters, like the weather, are unpredictable, and may in turn, surprise, shock and delight.
“Strange Weather” and her first book of short stories, “A Gram of Mars,” have been described as “curious, clever, quick, hilarious, and heart-breaking.”
The author herself describes some of the seven stories included in “Strange Weather” as realism and others as magical realism.
There is Anthony, the southern ghost, and two serial killers who can’t decide what to name their cat, and even some magical dirt to intrigue her readers.
Hagenston, originally from Maryland, earned an master’s degree from New Mexico State University and an master’s of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona.
She is an associate professor of English at Mississippi State University and lives in Starkville, with her husband Troy DeRego.
Autographed copies of her books will be available to buy at the program.
Books and Authors is sponsored by the Friends of the Starkville Library. The program is free and open to the public.
The Friends of the Library will provide light refreshments.
