The Starkville Civic league met Sept. 28 at Cadence Bank. This was the club’s first meeting for the year, which was a business meeting with Peggy Buckley, President, calling the meeting to order.
Our regular projects for the year are; Elementary School Reading, Library Book to Honor Civic League Program Presenter (book of choice), Starkville Manor nursing Home Bingo, Some Special Projects are: Starkville/MSU Symphony children’s concert, cotton District Arts Festival, and Recycling.
All of these projects are done by club volunteers who have fun and enjoy our projects. Each year, we have a big fund-raiser using the proceeds to do something really good for our City of Starkville. This year a big fund-raiser is the Tour of homes during the Christmas Season.
We want to let you know where of our money went. One year, it was for benches for the park at the fire Station downtown.
Another year, money was used to help pay for the beautiful clock downtown and last year, it was for hanging Christmas flags in town.
Each year, we award a scholarship for a deserving high school senior for their higher education. Teachers in the elementary schools where we volunteer receive funds to help buy books or other educational tools for the class room that will help their students.
Hostesses for this meeting were: Genevieve Swartzberg, Anita Reynolds and Norma Jean Smith.
The table was just right for fall, a new season’s beginning as well for a new beginning for our Club.
