Edwin R. (Babs) Jackson, 84, of Starkville, passed away at his residence on Dec. 25, 2010, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Sturgis, and graduated from Sturgis High School.
Mr. Jackson was a member of First Baptist Church of Starkville. He was employed by Hand Chemical Laboratory at Mississippi State University where he served as director of the Department of Agriculture and Industry. He also was a Charter member of Starkville Civitan Club, American Chemical Society and American Association of Analytical Chemists where he was a Fellow.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Britt Jackson of Starkville; his daughter, Martha Jane Phillips (the late Travis Denton, Jr.) of Starkville; son, David Clark Jackson (Lorraine) of Penn Yan, N.Y.; grandchildren, Edwin Travis Phillips and David Denton Phillips both of Starkville; sister, Martha Makamson (the late Willie) of Florence; and brother, Elman Dale Jackson (Ruth) of Sturgis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Mary Jackson; and a brother, Calvin Clark Jackson.
Visitation will be held at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church in Starkville conducted by Rev. Clifton Curtis. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Park.
