A Starkville couple is mourning the loss of their son in a reported homicide in New Orleans late last week.
Jonathan Hall, 27, died from a gunshot wound to the head at a home at 1225 St. Roch Ave., in New Orleans, late this past Thursday night. Police went to Hall’s home around 11 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a shooting in the 1200 block of St. Roch, according to a report in the Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans.
He was pronounced dead by emergency medical technicians, the Times-Picayune reported.
Hall was the son of Ben and Barbara Hall of Starkville and attended Starkville High School.
Hall was a chef at a restaurant in the French Quarter in New Orleans, his father said Monday afternoon when he contacted the Daily News.
Ben Hall said New Orleans police detectives told him his son’s body was found near the entrance of his home.
“They think he may have walked in on a robbery in progress and gotten shot,” Ben Hall said Monday.
Ben Hall said memorial services for his son are being planned for locations out of state, but contacted the Daily News about his son’s death to ensure to help inform his son’s friends locally.
Tributes have already been posted on Jonathan Hall’s page on the Facebook website, as well as other Internet blogs, his father said.
“He was a super guy, and from what people are saying on Facebook, he was a wonderful person who always tried to help people,” Ben Hall said. “It’s hard for me to put into words the kind of response we’ve seen.”
New Orleans police are continuing to investigate Jonathan Hall’s slaying — one of three in the greater New Orleans area to take place this past Thursday.
