Doss puts up 41 points to lift East Oktibbeha

CRAWFORD – It's pretty impressive for a player at East Oktibbeha to do something for the first time since April Sykes.
That's what Quanisha Doss did on Thursday night.
Doss scored a career-high 41 points for the Lady Titans as they defeated the McAdams Lady Bulldogs 69-46 at the East Oktibbeha Tournament.
Doss said she didn't even know she was close to the 40-point mark until being told during a timeout toward the end of the game.
"When they sat me down during a break, they told me they were going to put me back in so I could score 40 points," Doss said.
East Oktibbeha coach Randy Brooks said Doss has been a pretty consistent scorer all season.
"She's been doing that pretty much all year," Brooks said. "She's been in double figures for most of the games that we've played this year."
Doss helped East Oktibbeha jump out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter and continued to pour it on McAdams in the second quarter to increase the margin to 32-10 by halftime.
Brooks said the Lady Titans just played the game as it was meant to be played in establishing the good lead.
"We were able to play fundamental basketball," Brooks said.
Doss was the only East Oktibbeha player to score in double digits. Shondra Nichols and Kelcie Lanier added eight points each.
Brooks was glad to see the Lady Titans (10-8) dominate another team that went to the state tournament last season.
"Going into (the season), these were the kind of teams we wanted to schedule this year," Brooks said. "I went through the state tournament and looked at the teams that went to the state tournament last year like McAdams, Puckett and people like Aberdeen. I wanted to play them. If we are going to be the best, we're going to have to play the best."

CRAWFORD - The Lady Lions used a strong defensive effort to defeat the Lady Timberwolves earlier in the day.
Weir jumped out to a 14-6 lead after the first quarter and worked the advantage out to 26-16 at halftime.
West Oktibbeha was able to cut the margin to 32-25 after three quarters, but was unable to complete the rally.
Mississippi State signee Shamia Robinson led the Lady Timberwolves in scoring with 14 points, but was the only player in double digits.
