The graveside service for Dr. James W. Deaton is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery.
The Rev. Max Deaton will conduct the service.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville.
Dr. Deaton, 76, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at Dove Health and Rehab of Collierville, Tenn.
He was a retired research scientist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Poultry Lab. He did extensive poultry research and published over 300 scientific papers.
He dedicated his life to family.
Dr. Deaton was preceded in death by two sisters and one grandson, Reid Deaton.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mattie Deaton; son, Randall (Kristi) Deaton; and grandsons, Cody, Luke and Kyle Deaton, all of Collierville, Tenn.; three brothers, Wayne Deaton of Boston, Mass., Max Deaton of Sparkman, Ark., and Carroll Deaton of Bismark, Ark.; sister, Anna Frances Morris of Alexandria, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
