Nash Street featured in Kosciusko concert

KOSCIUSKO —Nash Street will be among the musical acts performing at the seventh annual Bluegrass and More Concert here this weekend.
The concert, presented by the Attala Historical Society, will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Oprah Winfrey Boys & Girls Club  located at 500 Knox Road in Kosciusko.
 The concert features Ace Cannon, considered a musical genius and the greatest saxophone player who ever lived, nominated for a Grammy for recording of “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” recorded 67 albums, 47 singles.   
He has been called the “Godfather of the Sax,“ traveling as far away as the Caribbean, where more than 23,000 people recently showed up for two sold-out shows. 
He has made numerous appearances on Nashville Now, New Country, Charlie Daniel’s Jam & Fan Fair; was inducted into Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame and in 2009 received the Mississippi Legislative Award for his long career and contributions to the music industry.
Nash Street, winner of $100,000 at the 26th Annual Colgate Country Showdown, held at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, and the title of “Best New Act in Country Music,” will alsobe featured also.   
Less than a year after the release of their last album, “Between Hope and Heartache,” the members of Nash Street finds themselves busy delving even further into their New Acoustic Country genre to see what fresh and exciting sounds they might be able to discover.  
Originally from Starkville, Nash Street recently relocated to Nashville, Tenn.  Along with their excitement and enthusiasm, the band brought the soulful melodies of Mississippi and the leisurely rhythm of small-town Southern life to Music City. 
The influences of Delta Blues musicians, Elvis Presley, and Jimmy Rodgers are undeniable when listening to band’s music.   However, Nash Street prides themselves on taking their rich musical influences of yesterday and blending them with their influences of today.   Groups and musicians such as Chris Thile, The Eagles, Little Big Town and Alison Krauss and Union Station have all had an impact on molding Nash Street and their unique sound.
Nash  Street has had the good fortune to experience many firsts in their career.   As recently as June 2010, the band was able to film their first music video aboard the Delta Queen riverboat in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The video was filmed to help promote their song “Mississippi Queen.”  The band consists of Daniel Hare on upright bass, sisters Hannah and Caroline Melby on fiddle and mandolin respectively, Ben Mathis on rhythm guitar, and Clay Lezon on lead guitar.
The Larry Wallace Band will feature the traditional sounds of bluegrass that have earned him the honor of appearing on the Grand Ole Opry, performing at the Country Music Hall of Fame, and touring for ten years with the famous Jimmy Martin, the “King” of bluegrass, and the Sunny Mountain Boys.   Larry Wallace was awarded the title of “State Banjo Champion” for seven years.
The admission charge $12 in advance and $15 at the door.   Children 10 years and under will be admitted free.   This is a non-smoking, non-alcohol event.   Food concessions will be available.
