The Starkville Daily News has named a new managing editor.
Leilani Salter is a 24-year veteran in Mississippi journalism as a writer, editor, photographer, newsroom manager and page designer. She will be taking over the position on March 1.

Salter has served as editor and director of community publications with The Clarion-Ledger.
She joined The Clarion-Ledger as public affairs manager in 2001. Salter served as editor and director of The Madison County Herald, Rankin Ledger, The Clinton News, Northeast Ledger, Hind Ledger and home and parenting magazines. She also served as director of the society publication VIP Jackson Magazine.
Salter began her career with The Scott County Times in the advertising department, and later served as a reporter, photographer, page designer and managing editor.
Most recently, she served as editor of http://www.MSDigitalDaily.com [2], a statewide, online-only news edition.
Nationally, Salter was among the Best of Gannett winners in 2003 and a recipient of Gannett’s Chairman’s Award in 2006 and attended American Press Institute. She is a past president of Forest Area Chamber of Commerce and past director of Madison the City Chamber of Commerce. Salter is a longtime member of Mississippi Press Association and has won numerous writing and photography awards. She also owns a photography business at http://www.leilanisalter.com [3].
Salter and her husband, Sid, have four grown children and three grandchildren and are members of Forest United Methodist Church.
