A Starkville man is being held in the Clay County Jail, charged with possession of a stolen firearm and discharging a firearm within the city limits.
Daquarian Montret Stinson, 17, of 1384 Louisville St., Apt. 14, Starkville, is being charged as an adult in the Feb. 21 incident.
According to Starkville Police Sergeant Chadd Garnett, officers responded to a 911 call stating there were shots fired into the air with small children in the area. The call was received at about 5 p.m. Feb. 21 in the area of Yellow Jacket Trailer Park. Garnett said the caller provided a description of the shooter.
According to Garnett, responding officers noticed the suspect in the vicinity of the shooting. Officers witnessed the suspect throwing away the gun, and fleeing the area.
Garnett said the suspect was detained and the gun recovered.
The gun was identified as one stolen as part of a recent auto burglary in the city.
Bond for Stinson has been set $5,000 and he remains in jail at press time.
