RIPLEY— Funeral services for Edith Reed Estes were held May 17 at McBride Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Little Hope Cemetery in Falkner. McBride Funeral Home of Ripley was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Estes, 88, formerly of Ripley, died May 15, 2011, at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville.
She was born August 31, 1922 to James Lytle and Pearl Goolsby Reed of Faulkner. She married Hiram Guy Estes on October 17, 1947, and they resided in Tippah County's Shady Grove community for more than 50 years. Edith taught science for 34 years and treasured every student throughout her career.
One of the happiest events of her live was becoming a "Grannie" to her four grandchildren, who loved her with all their hearts.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Williams (Ed) and Beth Estes, both of Starkville; two granddaughters, Ellen Haas (Ernest) of Stuart, Va. and Laura Smith (Stephen) of Moundville, Ala.; one grandson, Ben Williams of Koxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Ruth Coskrey of Starkville and Martha Lindsey of Falkner; two brothers, Carl Reed and Larry Reed of Gunter, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hiram; her parents, James Lytle and Pearl Reed; one daughter, Judy Rose Estes; one grandson, Austin Williams; one brother, James Lytle Reed, Jr.; and two sisters, Lila Benton and Lillie Reed.
She will be remembered for her hard work, love for others and enjoying the small joys of daily living. She loved hearing from former students and reminiscing about the good time in life.
