STURGIS — Final countdown for the 14th annual Sturgis South All-Bike Motorcycle Rally has begun, and organizers will be opening the first areas for camping this weekend for early arrivals.
The Rally formally opens this coming Thursday, but many bikers and other Rally enthusiasts will arrive early.
To capitalize on the early arrivals, Diane Jackson Memorial Park in Sturgis will open at 10 a.m. Saturday for “early campers to come in and get a good spot for camping during the rally,” said Donny Hanson, president of the Rally Board.
“Anyone coming to get a spot must bring a camper or tent to set up and reserve their spot for the Rally. We will not allow people to come in and rope off a spot,” Hanson said. “They must have a camper or tent to set up.”
The park — also known as City
Park — will remain open for campers to to set up through Thursday when the Rally opens.
“Anyone setting up in the park will have to register or pre-register to get in the park after 1 p.m. on Aug. 19 (Thursday),” Hanson said. “The proper armband will be required any time after 1 p.m. on Aug. 19.”
Rules for Rally-goers camping in City Park are:
• No glass containers are allowed.
• No nudity is allowed.
• No guns are allowed.
• No dogs are allowed.
• No four-wheel ATV’s or golf carts are allowed except by Rally staff members and security personnel.
