Carl Smith has been named news editor of Starkville Daily News. He began his duties Tuesday.
Smith is a native of Indianola. He graduated Mississippi State University with a degree in communication and served as editor-in-chief of The Reflector, the university’s student-run newspaper.
Most recently, Smith served as a staff writer at The Magee Courier / Simpson County News in Magee.
Besides his passions for journalism and his alma mater, Smith said his interests include sports, music, history and politics.
“I consider Starkville to be my second home and am very grateful for the opportunity to come back,” Smith said. “I look forward to returning to this town as a young professional.”
Smith’s responsibilities will include coverage of the meetings of supervisors, aldermen, school boards and breaking news.
“We are fortunate to have Carl join our staff and look forward to working with him as we bring new features to the newspaper.” said Leilani Salter, editor of Starkville Daily News.
